J&J Makes Progress in Risperdal Probe

Johnson & Johnson has agreed in principle to plead guilty to a misdemeanor criminal charge as part of a settlement of a federal probe into off-label marketing of antipsychotic Risperdal, though several other issues remain under discussion.

Federal prosecutors have been investigating the promotion of Risperdal by J&J's Janssen Pharmaceutica unit since at least 2004. J&J's disclosure of progress resolving the investigation, made in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, indicates a final settlement could come by the end of the year, a person familiar with the matter said Wednesday.
