Shortages of important drugs mean big problems for thousands of U.S. patients

Shortages of potentially lifesaving drugs are posing major problems for thousands of U.S. patients who may be forced to drive longer distances to get medicine, pay more for it or switch to a perhaps less-effective substitute.

Some drugs, such as Doxil, prescribed for uterine cancer, are unavailable in the U.S. Others, such as mitomycin for bladder cancer, are in such short supply that pharmacies have to tuck away the last few supplies for patients who already started a regimen. Read more
