RxRights lead organizer appears on New York radio program
Lee Graczyk, our lead organizer, was asked to share his expertise on the John Gambling Show on Tuesday. You can listen to the radio interview here. John’s discussion with Lee starts about 17 minutes and 30 seconds into the program.
Topics discussed include:
- The fact that Medicare is prohibited from negotiating with drug companies and the history of how that came about, which involves the revolving door between Big Pharma and Congress.
- The pharmaceutical industry’s contributions to Congress, which the Center for Responsive Politics’ Open Secrets website puts at about $30 million for each election cycle.
- Drug importation and the fact that Americans pay a lot more for the same exact drugs than those in other countries.
Lee mentioned our tips for finding a safe online pharmacy.
When asked whether there’s a way to counter this problem of unaffordable medicine, Lee responded that he finds it heartening that a recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll showed 72 percent of Americans think drug costs are unreasonable and 74 percent think drug companies put profits before people.
“There is this sort of groundswell of people who are just fed up with this situation. It’s those kind of numbers that ultimately move Congress to take some sort of action,” he said.
