My blood pressure meds from a Canadian pharmacy are less than $1.00 per tablet. My pharmacist said no generic was available in the US and the Diovan would be $287.80 for a 60-day supply. Medical insurance is outrageous because it supplements the AMA and pharmacy lobbies. Frederick

Consumer Reports article misses the point on drug importation

We were disappointed to see this biased article by Consumer Reports this week that warns American consumers who are having trouble affording their needed medications to avoid international online pharmacies. They further advise patients to "switch to generics whenever possible, look for discount programs, and ask your doctor or pharmacist about other ways to reduce your costs." While these latter tips are appropriate, they won't provide enough relief for cash-strapped consumers.

CIPA to take action against rogue online pharmacies

We’d like to commend RxRights member, the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA), for its efforts to protect consumers against rogue online pharmacies. CIPA today announced it is taking action against rogue internet pharmacies wrongfully displaying the CIPA certification seal on unapproved websites.

Representative launches investigation into gray market gouging

Sometimes writing to your representatives does make an impact! Brenda Frese, mother of a 3-year-old with leukemia, wrote to Representative Elijah Cummings (D-MD) about shortages of Cytarabine, a critical drug in her son’s treatment that is now in short supply. We’re pleased to report that Cummings was moved by her story and decided to investigate.
