Conservative Researcher Advocates Decriminalizing Personal Drug Importation
posted Tue, 14 Dec 2010An interesting article by Roger Bate, economist and drug safety expert at the American Enterprise Institute, came out yesterday calling for Republicans to decriminalize personal drug importation.
Underscoring Mr. Bate's position is his recognition, based on his own studies, that Americans who purchase brand name prescription drugs from non-US pharmacies can do so with confidence by consulting the approved list of online pharmacies found on PharmacyChecker.com. At RxRights, we also advise consumers to take the following safety precautions:
- Buy only from Internet pharmacies that require a written, signed prescription issued by your doctor.
- Buy only from Internet pharmacies that are licensed in the country where they operate, and that sell only leading brand name products.
- Never respond to unsolicited email advertising from “pharmacies” with prices too good to be true.
Allowing personal drug importation seems like a perfect bi-partisan policy to ensure that more Americans get the medication they need at prices they can afford.
