I order generic medication that is not yet available in generic in the US. The cost difference is about $75/month. My husband was recently put on a very expensive generic medication which is 50% cheaper ordering from Canada. We both have Medicare Part D but the co-pays on both of these medications is high and we will also hit the "donut hole" making it impossible to get the medication we need. Barbara

Conservative Researcher Advocates Decriminalizing Personal Drug Importation

posted Tue, 14 Dec 2010

An interesting article by Roger Bate, economist and drug safety expert at the American Enterprise Institute, came out yesterday calling for Republicans to
 decriminalize personal drug importation.

Underscoring Mr. Bate's position is his recognition, based on his own studies, that Americans who purchase brand name prescription drugs from non-US pharmacies can do so with confidence by consulting the approved list of online pharmacies found on PharmacyChecker.com.

At RxRights, we also advise consumers to take the following safety precautions:

  • Buy only from Internet pharmacies that require a written, signed prescription issued by your doctor.
  • Buy only from Internet pharmacies that are licensed in the country where they operate, and that sell only leading brand name products.
  • Never respond to unsolicited email advertising from “pharmacies” with prices too good to be true.

Allowing personal drug importation seems like a perfect bi-partisan policy to ensure that more Americans get the medication they need at prices they can afford.
