I have to take a medication for the rest of my life and I have no insurance! The only way I can afford to pay for this medication is by buying it from Canada since in America it costs 60% more. Janet

More on Makena

We recently told you about Makena, a preemie prevention drug that went from $15 to $1500 per dose overnight.

There's a good article in the Washington Post today with some more background about the drug and the FDA approval process. There has been a great deal of criticism in the news lately about this situation. As reported earlier in GoozNews, the National Women’s Health Network is calling this extortion and asking their members to send their message of outrage to KV Pharmaceuticals. Both KV and the FDA should be critiqued here. KV raised the price exponentially and without justification and FDA policies enable such monopolies.

This is just another example of unfair tactics by pharmaceutical companies and complacency on the part of the government. It further illustrates the pressing need for advocacy on the issue of drug affordability.
